Retired and retiring seniors physical fitness training information.
Welcome to the Activelyfitseniors home page.
This blog is for us older people, like myself. As you can see from the menu, it covers a large array of helpful information that will guide you along on your journey into the latter stages of your life.
For me the absolute worse part of getting older is my rapidly diminishing strength. Despite a regimen of cardio and strength training I have not been able to maintain my strength. But then I am much older than when I was much stronger so it is to be expected, but not given into.
A little background on me, Danny O’Dell, just in case you may be interested in my qualifications in the health and fitness arena. I have a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, Political science, and Psychology. My master’s degree is in Psychology and Counseling.
I have exercised for most of my life, competed in powerlifting for over eight years, trained a number of World, National, and State record holders, worked with the young (eight to 14), teenagers, a collegiate division one athlete, the son of one of my friends, the adults and seniors, such as myself.
The oldest was eighty-eight years old. Incidentally, she set World, National, and State records in both the bench press and deadlift.
It must be noted, that I retired this year, 2024, from the NSCA and my strength coaching position in one of our local school districts.
For twenty years I was a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS*D).
Many of those years as a CSCS *D. The *D on my credential shows I had recertified with distinction representing four more CEUs than the normal CSCS of 6 CEUs during my many years with this accreditation.
Having lived the life of staying healthy, it just may be possible that my background will help others achieve a higher quality of life.
